LEADERSHIP LESSONS ARE NOT FROZEN IN TIME

This presentation is about an amazing story of survival. In 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton led the Endurance Expedition in an attempt to be the first person to cross the unexplored Antarctic continent on foot.  Just one day's sail from his destination of Vashel Bay, where he was to begin his crossing, his ship became stuck on the polar ice of the Weddell Sea.

What followed is one of the greatest survival stories of all time.  However, it is not just a story of survival; it is a story of leadership.  This presentation will not only explain the highlights of the incredible experience of Sir Ernest Shackleton's story of survival, it focuses on Shackleton's leadership style and examines the five basic leadership lessons he teaches us.  1. Develop a path to leadership. 2. Hire the right staff. 3.  Build camaraderie. 4. Develop individual talent. 5. Leading in a crisis. The lessons we learned from Sir Ernest Shackleton are still very relevant today.

This presentation is ideal for organizations and programs providing leadership training to potential business leaders, community leaders, or for inspiring staff to lead, the Shackleton way.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LEADERSHIP

What characteristics do individuals look for and admire in a leader, someone whose direction they would be willing to follow?  The key word is "willing" not "have to."

Do you have the characteristics of a leader?  Years of research have identified specific characteristics that individuals look for in someone they consider a leader.  Leadership is a challenge, and knowing the characteristics of good leaders can enhance you leadership skills and prepare you to be the one who people are "willing" to follow.

Participants will identify what they look for in a leader and compare those characteristics with others have identified as important leadership characteristics.  The top four characteristics will be discussed, including why they are important.

ARE YOUR BUTTERFLIES IN FORMATION?

All speakers, at any level, get butterflies in their stomach before speaking to an audience.  As Zig Ziglar said, the key is to get your butterflies to fly in formation.  There is no doubt that being able to speak effectively is vitally important whether speaking one-on-one, or before a large group. Effective speaking skills can be especially valuable when you are asked to speak unexpectedly.

This presentation will provide an overview of how to help you get your butterflies in formation and deliver an effective presentation, to any audience.  You will learn the basic techniques to develop confidence and effectiveness in a meeting or in front of a group. This presentation is a must for anyone who communicates, formally or informally.
